I'm changing my name...

No, not my real name - it will stay Michele with one l (when I was a child I wanted to change my name to Kimberly but my parents declined, and now I'm resigned to Michele). I've been posting and commenting under the name Novice Stitcher since I started this blog, but I've decided that it would be better to use my first name. Not that I don't think I am a novice anymore - I still feel like such a newbie to stitching and especially to finishing. But most people seem to be using their names now, and it seems friendlier to do the same. So as not to confuse everyone, I'll be Michele B., since there are a number of Micheles out here, and I'm amazed to find that I'm not the only one who spells her name with one l. Speaking of my name's spelling, I have a funny story to relate. I talked to a woman with the same name and spelling who said that the reason she only has one l in her name is that her grandmother made her parents promise that she wouldn't be spelling the word h*ll every time she wrote her name!

I decided to live dangerously and I'm stitching the heart on my Teacher Gift with the silk Rose of Sharon. So far no bleeding and it looks really pretty. I'm not sure yet how I will frame the piece or if I can find a standard frame that would fit it and look nice. Where do you get your frames? Do you do your own framing usually or use a shop for it? I've yet to frame anything and I'm getting anxious to see some of my work on my walls.

Now that this piece is coming to an end I need to think about my next project. I'll probably finish up Schoolgirl Lessons but I'd like to try something with color changes soon. I'm definitely going to be a novice stitcher at that, but I won't let that stop me!

Ahh, those funny name spellings! All my life people have asked if I spell my name -ie or -ey ;)

Spelling of names--always a dilemma. Kathy is another name that is spelled many ways. I always say Kathy with a K and Y.

Don't you like stitching with the silk? It just glides through the fabric.

I have everything I frame done by the professionals. My theory is that I spend so much time stitching it, I don't want to screw it up by framing it myself. Also, it would take away for stitching time.

Hey One L lol .. I'm weird, I always love that my name wasn't spelled with 2 L's .. I loved being different! I've been amazed how many Michele's/Michelle's there are out in blogland! Up until getting on line a few years ago I think I've only known 2 M's.

I remember being so excited the first time I heard the Beatles sing Michelle on the radio :)

My mom told me that when I was born, she had picked out the name, but hadn't thought about how it was spelled. When the nun was filling out the birth certificate, she asked mom how to spell my name .. mom didn't know. The nun said it's spelled with one L in the bible .. so that's why mine has one :)

lol, I'm Michelle B. too, though I do have hell in me. :-) I think that one L is the French way to spell it, though I am completely French.

I frame some of my own stuff. My husband is supposed to make me some frames. Still waiting...

Well, hello Michele. It is nice that you are no longer a novice stitcher. Name spellings are so interesting. I am often asked if my name is Katherine or Kathleen and my answer is always no and I say Kathy with a K.

My dad registered my two Christian names back to front! Mum wanted to call me Carol Ann but my maiden name was Thomas and the midwife pointed out my initials would spell CAT and that I would get teased at school so mum said that dad could chose my second name. There was me, born in December, and he comes up with June and promptly registers me as June Carol! I have never been called June but do have to use it officially. Why didn't that midwife mind her own business - I would be a CAR now - a BMW or a Mercedes perhaps!

Am emailing you later today Michele.

I've framed quite a bit of my own stuff and it's not as hard as you might think. The hardest part is when you need a custom sized frame, which can get expensive.

I usually order what I need from www.pictureframes.com. I've had GREAT luck with them and their customer service is excellent. I do recommend calling and asking for a free set of sample mats because the color can differ radically from what you see on their website. You can also upload a photo or scan of what you want to frame and play around with different mats and frames until you find something you like.
