Gingerbread Cottage begins

Here's what I've done so far on Gingerbread Cottage. I'm missing one of the Crescent Colours so the area around the door isn't done yet. I'm just starting the roof and hope I don't get mixed up with several shades of light brown. I managed to do the small color changes with the flowers - it may not seem like that much but I've never done it before. Every first is a notch in my stitching belt.

I went to Barnes & Noble today and looked at British cross stitch magazines (I was lucky and they weren't in those annoying plastic bags that you can't open). I love to read the letters column and see the projects stitchers send in. Many of the patterns don't appeal to me or are too complicated for a beginner, so I rarely buy them, but every now and then something catches my eye and I ante up the cost just for one chart. In general I don't see many blog pictures of work that comes from these magazines, and I'm curious if any of you read them and what you think of them.

Please make sure to see my post below about the new blogger in our midst, Kim of Stitchful Thinking. Hop on over and give her a warm welcome.

Michele, your work on Gingerbread Cottage is amazing! I love the linen you picked out! It compliments the brown of the house perfectly. I never thought to check B&N's huge magazine assortment for cross-stitch magazines. I'm going to have to head over there!

You're doing a great job so far. You'll be so proud of yourself when you're done!

Wonderful start on Gingerbread Cottage...I think it's such a cute chart.

I often check out the British mags, but rarely see anything that I want to stitch. I'm even becoming increasingly disappointed with the American publications too.

Great stitching job. Keep up the good work. See changing colors is not hard.

Love your Gingerbread Cottage! :)

I must admit, I don't read the mags. I have so much stuff already I don't have space to keep magazines :)

Gingerbread Cottage looks beautiful so far.

I will check out your friend's blog and add her to my reader:)

I don't buy British mags anymore. I used to buy them regularly but I never buy them now. There's never anything in them that appeals to me.

Although I'm a Brit I don't buy any of our mags at all they are all so boring and cutesy and I feel they are just not worth the money IMHO!

I love your Gingerbread Cottage - it's so sweet!

I don't buy British mags either and I'm from the UK too!

The only mag I do buy is the Antique and Needlework Quarterly and I have a complete set of those.
