Christmas Stitching

At long last I have a finish to show - it's a pinkeep I made as a Christmas gift for a friend who doesn't read my blog. This friend is an Anglophile and she has a particular thing for British mailboxes. There is even an organization for people who have this interest. So when I saw this chart in a book of projects by Janet Granger, I knew I had to stitch it for her. I boxed it up (no pun intended) and will send it out to her tomorrow.

This little guy and his friend were a quick, fun stitch. It is a freebie from Oakhaven Designs found here. And this last picture is why I haven't been posting - Jenny Bean's Christmas Sampler by Shakespeare's Peddler. It's a larger project than I have done before and is slow going. I'm not very happy with the linen I'm using - it is a very loose weave and when I make stitches you can see the holes in the fabric. But I'm plugging away - maybe it will be done by Christmas 2011!

Ooo, I really, REALLY dislike loose linen. Maybe because I tend to keep my stitching tension fairly tight. Still, your progress looks lovely. Please keep going . . . then you can always make a mental note to avoid that linen next time.

Cute finishing and a very thoughtful gift. Glad to see your post, Michele!

Cute finishes! I know what you mean about loose fabric. I have a project like that right now.

Nice finish, both stitching and finishing.

Jenny seems to be coming along nicely. It is hard when the fabric creates problems for you. Keep up the good work. Just bought that Jenny pattern when I was in Branson.

Now that's a novel idea--an organization for people interested in British mailboxes!! Amazing!

Your pinkeep is very nice Michele and Jenny Bean is one of my favorites...I'm doing an ornament on loosely woven linen right now and don't like it either.

I'm not crazy about loose linen, either, I think because I stitch with fairly tight tension. It doesn't help much when I'm yanking the thread and the hole is already open! That said, your progress is beautiful and remember--a lot of people use only one strand on low count linen to get the same effect. Embrace the loveliness and enjoy! It really is pretty. I have this sampler on my list of probable stitches for the Crazy January challenge.

Lovely finishing!
